چکیده

The onset of damage caused by the free-edge effect in plain-woven carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) specimens with an out-of-plane waviness under tension-tension fatigue loading is investigated. Numerical calculations show that interlaminar and intralaminar stresses close to are higher than equivalent at surrounding edge regions. Using submodels, influence chosen can be better assessed. considered specimens, which originates from stress gradients between plies different orientation, altered change field waviness. Large same orientation obtained, contrasts existing literature. In experimental testing it found cracks free appeared predicted locations, after reaching crack saturation, regions waviness, lead additional along whole edges. tests supported a three dimensional image correlation system (3D-DIC), thermal-imager digital photographic camera, allows detailed examination selected areas. Visual observation during post-mortem inspection good agreement data numerical relation location initiation. As result, edges must as significant initiation laminate analysis.

analysis of elastic-plastic behavior of fiber metal laminates subjected to in-plane tensile loading

fiber metal laminates are hybrid laminates consisting of thin alternating bonded layers of aluminum and fiber/epoxy. arall (aramid aluminum laminate) and galare (glass fiber reinforced aluminum laminate) are specific kinds of fiber metal laminates that consist of thin aluminum sheets along with kevlar/epoxy and glass/epoxy composite layers, respectively. in this study, nonlinear tensile behavio...

Out of Plane Thermal Conductivity of Carbon Fiber Reinforced Composite Filled with Diamond Powder

Highly conductive fillers have a strong influence on improving the poor out of plane thermal conductivity of carbon fiber reinforced composites. The objective of this study has been to investigate the role of the diamond powder (DP) in enhancing the out-of-plane thermal conductivity of the woven composites. Samples of the standard modulus T300 carbon fiber composite with 44% and 55% fiber volum...

Failure Behavior of Unidirectional Composites under Compression Loading: Effect of Fiber Waviness

The key objective of this work is to highlight the effect of manufacturing-induced fiber waviness defects on the compressive failure of glass fiber-reinforced unidirectional specimens. For this purpose, in-plane, through-thickness waviness defects (with different waviness severities) are induced during the manufacturing of the laminate. Numerical and experimental results show that the compressi...
